Running marketing for your camp on top of all the other incredibly important things you do to ensure your organization is successful while also creating lasting memories for your participants can be overwhelming. Sometimes it can be a challenge to even begin figuring out what you need to do and what changes need to be made to increase participation and revenue. Read on to discover potential problems with your camp’s marketing and how to fix them.

1. Lack of Communication

You can’t expect to raise participation and revenue without attempting to get the word out about your camps via some form of marketing. Whether it’s through email, paid social media posts, SMS, newspaper ads or even distributing flyers within your community, you have to make it known that you’re hosting an amazing camp.

Use avenues of marketing that make the most sense for you, your budget and your camp. Have a nice, long list of email addresses for members in your community? Send out a fun and informative email that includes a call-to-action button, which leads them to your east-to-use registration page. Does your camp’s Facebook business page have a fair amount of followers? Post about your camp (and include the registration link) on that page and create a paid campaign that targets families in your community. Do what you feel is best and what you believe will give your camp the most return on investment. There are plenty of online and offline marketing options out there for you.

2. Low Website Traffic Generation

When parents Google ‘camps near me’ or any other keyword that relates to what your organization offers the community, does your website appear on the first Google Search Results Page (SERP)? If not, you’re missing out on quite a lot of website traffic, as 75% of people do not go past the first page and over 25% of people click on the first result

What can you do to improve your rankings on Google? Practice good search engine optimization (SEO) on your website! Make sure relevant keywords for what your organization offers are strategically placed on your website, and optimize your URL structure. Improve your SEO titles, meta descriptions, headers, image file names, image alt tags and website copy. And always, always include relevant phrases. Once you have all the aforementioned items in place, watch your web traffic grow!

3. Not Improving Campaigns

So you’re running campaigns on social media, Google or via email and you aren’t seeing the numbers you want. Instead of just letting your campaigns run until funds are exhausted or turning them off altogether, why not try an A/B test? Change one thing about your campaigns and test it against the original to see if it affects the campaign results. If you don’t see any changes or see a negative result, change another thing and test that. This could be imagery, copy, target audiences, location or calls to action—even the color of whatever image you’re using can make a difference.

4. Not Leveraging Marketing Data

After running campaigns for a bit (email or paid social), you should have enough marketing data to make well-informed decisions about your target market and what exactly they’re looking for in a camp. Take that data, analyze it and determine what the best next steps are. Should you host another camp that meets the needs of your community? Should you change your target market because your campaigns aren’t reaching the right people? Perhaps your campaign copy needs a little tweaking. It all depends on what the data is telling you.
